MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Millersville got off to a strong start here Monday night and the West Liberty wrestling team couldn't recover as the host Marauders claimed a 30-6 victory in a battle of Super Region One rivals.
Millersville (2-1) swept the first five matches to grab a 17-0 lead before David Schlieper broke through for Coach Mitch Smith's Hilltoppers (1-6). Schlieper controlled Seth Decker for much of their 165-pound match before walking away with an 8-4 win. West Liberty couldn't build on that momentum, however, as the host Marauders locked things up with a fall and a major decision in the next two matches.
Tyler Dodd picked up the final points for the Black and Gold with an impressive 10-3 win against David Wuestner at 285. The Hilltoppers and Marauders also wrestled dual matches against Thaddeus Stevens College, a two-year technical school from Lancaster, Pa.
West Liberty and Millersville each pitched shutouts against Thaddeus Stevens and, while the wins won't be included in the team records, they are counted on the individual level.
The Hilltoppers will take a break for Thanksgiving before going back on the road Dec. 5 with a 7 p.m. dual at Alderson-Broaddus.
