Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team battled unbeaten and nationally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan to the wire Wednesday afternoon only to see the No. 11 Bobcats escape with a 1-0 win at a rainy West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (3-9-5, 3-7-5), who had earned a scoreless draw with Wesleyan (16-0-2, 14-0-2) earlier this season, kept the visitors off the board throughout a scoreless first half that saw each team fail to capitalize on quality scoring chances. The Bobcats stepped up the pressure after intermission, outshooting West Liberty by a 13-3 margin in the final 45 minutes, and finally broke the scoring ice in the 62nd minute.
Wesleyan's Kelsey Sitka played a ball into the box where Colette Biondi was able to sort her way through traffic and finish it into the bottom left corner of the net.
Bobcat keeper Hillary DeWitt had two saves to pick up the win with her 16th shutout of the season. Allie Warsaw kept Hilltopper hopes alive to the end with six saves in goal for the hosts. West Liberty wraps up the season at home on Saturday with a Senior Day match against Concord. Kickoff is set for1 p.m. at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
