PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team battled host Lincoln (Pa.) to a 1-1 tie here Friday in a mutual season opener.

The Lions drew first blood with an unassisted goal from Jessica Obodo in the 36th minute and took a 1-0 lead into intermission.

Coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers equalized in the 59th minute when Veronica Rothka finished off an assist from Mackenzie Ullman.

West Liberty outshot Lincoln by a 13-4 margin on the afternoon and had a 4-0 edge in shots during the two extra periods but couldn't drive home the game-winner.

The Hilltoppers will remain in Philadelphia to take on Chowan (NC) on Saturday in a 2 p.m. match.
