Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team exploded for four second-half goals here Wednesday afternoon and rallied to a 4-1 revenge win against Concord in Mountain East Conference action at a rain soaked West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach Barry Christmas' Hilltoppers (4-4-3, 4-3-2), who had dropped a 4-3 decision to the Mountain Lions (4-6-3, 2-5-3) in Athens last month, saw the visitors grab a quick 1-0 lead on Wednesdaywhen Stacey Calder sent home an unassisted goal in the 14th minute. Concord made that goal stand up for a 1-0 lead at intermission but it didn't take long for West Liberty to turn the tide when play resumed.
The Hilltoppers returned to the pitch with all guns blazing and Janice Johnson equalized on a penalty kick less than three minutes into the second half. Only a minute later, Johnson and Sarah Evans teamed up on a rare double assist to set up a go-ahead goal for Veronica Rothka. Andrea Williams padded the lead with an unassisted goal in the 57th minute and Thanna Oddo added an insurance tally off Evans' second assist of the half to close out the scoring in the 81st minute. After being outshot, 7-4, in the first 45 minutes, the Hilltoppers outshot the Mountain Lions by a 9-1 margin the rest of the way.
Allie Warsaw, who came up with four big saves to keep West Liberty in the match during the first half, finished with five saves to earn the win in net. The Lady Hilltoppers hit the road on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match at the University of Charleston.
