Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va.  – The West Liberty University women's soccer team battled Notre Dame (Ohio) to a scoreless tie through the first 80 minutes here Wednesday afternoon but couldn't hold on as the unbeaten Falcons scored twice in the final 10 minutes to escape with a 2-0 win in Mountain East Conference action at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (1-6-0, 0-4-0) saw their upset bid halted in the 81st minute when Notre Dame (6-0-0, 4-0-0) was awarded a penalty kick following a West Liberty foul in the box. Megan O'Connor hammered the PK past Hilltopper keeper Rachel Coles for the game's first score with less than 10 minutes remaining.
The Falcons added an insurance tally in the 84th minute when Katherine Beatty scored on a perfectly-placed free kick from just outside the box.
Notre Dame outshot the Hilltoppers, 16-8, and earned 7 corners compared to 5 for the hosts. Coles finished with 5 saves in nets for WLU while Kristy Kolschetsky was charted with 2 saves to get the shutout for the Falcons.
West Liberty travels to Charleston on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match against the Golden Eagles.
