Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Concord scored two quick goals in the opening minutes and weathered a barrage of West Liberty shots the rest of the way to hang for a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon in women's soccer action at a rainswept West Liberty Sports Complex.
The visiting Mountain Lions (3-2-1, 1-1-1) drew first blood on an unassisted goal by Kari Simon just three minutes after the opening kickoff.
With rain continuing to pelt down, Concord pushed the count to 2-0 only 22 seconds later with another unassisted goal, this one off the foot of Abby Barber.
Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (1-5-0, 0-3-0) got back into the match in the 11th minute when Courtney Webb banged one home to cap an extended West Liberty flurry.
The Hilltoppers went on to launch a total of 18 shots, 10 in the first half and 8 more after intermission, but couldn't dent the Mountain Lion net again as Concord keeper Kristen Twomey was charted with 5 saves to preserve the win.
The Hilltoppers host Notre Dame (Ohio) Wednesday at 5 p.m. in another MEC test.
