WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team built a 2-0 lead Tuesdayafternoon but couldn't make it stand up as Ursuline (Ohio) banged home three unanswered goals in the second half to escape with a 3-2 win at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (1-2) carried a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to an unassisted goal by Allie Roberts in the 31st minute.
West Liberty took a two-goal lead in the 57th minute when Keiana Palmer finished off an assist from Courtney Webb but the visiting Arrows (2-1), one of the top teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, refused to fold.
Paige Rowan put Ursuline on the board in the 67th minute with an unassisted goal and, unfortunately for the Hilltoppers, the reigning GMAC Player of the Week was just getting started.
Rowan found Vanessa Consiglio for the equalizer in the 74th minute and delivered the game-winning goal – off an assist from Consiglio – with less than 10 minutes left on the clock.
West Liberty kicks off Mountain East Conference action on Sunday when Urbana invades the West Liberty Soccer Complex for a 1 p.m. game.
