WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Liberty University women's soccer team came up big on Saturday, shutting out Wheeling Jesuit, 3-0, in a crucial Mountain East Conference match at the Cardinals' LaRosa Field.

The win prevented Wheeling Jesuit (5-9-3, 4-6-3) from clinching an MEC playoff berth and kept post-season hopes alive for Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (5-10-1, 4-8-1).
In order to claim one of the MEC's four playoff spots, West Liberty needs to win its final MEC match on Tuesdayagainst last-place Shepherd and get some help with Wheeling Jesuit and Concord losing their final league matches.
The Hilltoppers put themselves in that position on Saturday with one of their strongest performances of the season.
West Liberty jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a Courtney Webb goal in the 14th minute and pushed the margin to 2-0 at halftime on a penalty kick off the foot of Janice Johnson in the 30th minute.
Alexa Robinson tacked on an insurance goal in the 75th minute while Rachel Coles came through with 7 saves in net to preserve the shutout.
The Hilltoppers outshot the Cardinals, 12-9, and forced 4 corners to just 2 by the hosts.
Kickoff for Tuesday's match against Shepherd is set for noon in Shepherdstown.
