Box Score WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – West Liberty and Shepherd battled to a 1-1 tie Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference women's soccer action at the West Liberty Soccer Complex.
Coach Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (2-6-1, 1-4-1) drew first blood when Courtney Webb popped out on a breakaway off a pass from Alexa Gray and hammered a shot into the lower left corner of the net in the 34th minute.
West Liberty nursed that lead into the second half only to see the Rams (5-3-2, 2-2-2) come up with the equalizer off a set piece. Shepherd's Kelsey Eagan curled a corner kick into the box and Erika Martin nodded it home to knot the score at 1 in the 64th minute.
That's where the score stayed through the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods as defense ruled the rest of the way.
The Rams outshot the Hilltoppers, 16-10, but West Liberty keeper Hannah Judkins was equal to the task with a game-high 6 saves. Shepherd keeper Elizabeth Wise was charted with 5 saves on the day.
The Hilltoppers host Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit Saturday at noon.
