URBANA, Ohio – Abby Pearson scored two goals and assisted on two others here Wednesday as the University of Urbana women's soccer team pulled away to a 4-0 victory against West Liberty.
Coach
Barry Christmas's Hilltoppers (2-8) battled the Blue Knights (5-5) on virtually even terms for the first 45 minutes, trailing just 1-0 at intermission on a Brittany Mazzu goal – off a Pearson cross – in the 27
th minute.
West Liberty was unable to get a ball behind Urbana keeper Meghan Taucher and Pearson sparked a three-goal outburst for the hosts midway through the second half, assisting on an Alyx Brown goal in the 58
th minute and tacking on a pair of insurance tallies in the 69
th and 72
nd minutes.
Urbana outshot the Hilltoppers by a 19-6 margin.
Hannah Judkins had 6 saves in net for West Liberty while Taucher stopped a pair of WLU shots to earn the shutout.
The Hilltoppers make the short trip to Wheeling on Saturday for a 7 p.m. game at Wheeling Jesuit.
