Heading into his 15th season at the helm of the West Liberty University men’s tennis program, veteran head man Sam McCullough has established the Hilltoppers as a perennial contender at the conference and regional levels.
A series of injuries snapped the Hilltoppers’ string of three consecutive MEC regular-season titles and NCAA Division III tournament bids during the 2017-18 season as the WLU men were knocked off in the semifinals of the MEC Tournament.
A glance at the Black and Gold’s track record under McCullough, however, suggests they won’t be down for long as he has led the Hilltoppers to a total of seven NCAA Division II tournament bids, four conference championships (2007, 2015, 2016, 2017) and four conference tournament finals during his career.
McCullough's teams have been as impressive in the classroom as they have been on the court. His Hilltoppers have been honored as an ITA All-Academic Team nine times in the past decade with multiple players earning individual accolades.
