Phillips shattered the West Liberty school record in the 5000m on Friday at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open. He raced his way to the front of the heat crossing the line in 14:26.52 breaking the school record set by Philip White last February by nearly 30 seconds. Phillips also hit an NCAA provisional mark meaning he will be considered by the NCAA for a place in the national meet.
