Tim Weaver enjoyed an outstanding career on the hilltop, both as a track and cross country competitor and as a highly-successful coach. Weaver came to West Liberty in 1968 after beginning his college career at Beckley (W.Va.) College and made an immediate impact by winning the 880-yard run at the 1969 WVIAC Championships. Weaver went on to earn All-WVIAC honors the following year when he helped lead the Hilltopper cross country team to the 1970 WVIAC Cross Country championship.
Weaver remained on campus following graduation as an admissions counselor and assistant coach for cross country and track. After taking over the coaching reins of both programs in the mid-1970s, he led them to unparalleled heights.
Weaver's powerhouse squads claimed five consecutive WVIAC track and field championships and two WVIAC cross country championships. In 1978, Tim was honored by the Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club for outstanding achievement as a track and cross country coach.
At the time of his induction, Weaver was serving as an account manager for Mine Technik America, Inc. and was also an investor in the Wheeling Nailers Professional Hockey Club. The Tim Weaver Memorial Track at the West Family Athletic Complex is named in his honor.
