Kevin Higgins was a dominating presence in the paint for West Liberty’s men’s basketball teams of the early 1990s. The Parkersburg, W.Va. native came to the hilltop after a stellar high school career at Parkersburg South High School and picked up right where he left off.
A four-year letterman for the Hilltoppers from 1991-95 and served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons. Higgins earned first-team All-West Virginia Conference laurels in back-to-back seasons over his final two years and also was named to the NAIA All-East Region Team.
He finished his career in Black and Gold with 1,344 points and still ranks among the school’s single-season and career leaders in blocked shots and field goal percentage. After graduating from WLU, Higgins worked in marketing and also coached basketball at Mount Union (Ohio) University.
