One of the best women’s tennis players in West Virginia Conference history, Kelly Brown helped West Liberty emerge as the league’s dominant program during the 1990s. The St. Clairsville, Ohio native never lost a WVIAC singles match in her four years at West Liberty. Compiling a 50-0 mark in singles play, she was a four-time All-WVIAC selection and four-time WVIAC singles champion.
The three-time WVIAC Player of the Year (1994, 1995, and 1996) led Coach Jim Crutchfield’s Hilltoppers to four straight conference team championships. Brown also cracked the NAIA national rankings in singles and doubles, becoming one of only eight American-born players to hit the Top 50. She teamed with 2010 Hall of Fame inductee Sue Beathler to form the No. 40-ranked NAIA doubles tandem in the nation.
After graduating from West Liberty in 1997, Brown went on to earn her master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in the elderly population from West Virginia University in 1999.
