Jay Duffy was a rare three-time first-team All-WVIAC selection on Coach Bob Roe's outstanding West Liberty football teams of the mid-1960s and was also a key performer on the baseball diamond before embarking on a highly-successful business career.
A ball-hawking defensive back, Duffy led the West Virginia Conference in interceptions for three consecutive seasons and was the only unanimous selection on the 1967 All-WVIAC squad. When he ended his career, Duffy was the WVIAC's all-time leader in interceptions (21) and held nearly every Hilltopper defensive record in the book. Duffy's speed and ball-hawking abilities made him a valuable member of the West Liberty baseball program as the three-year letterman was regarded as one of the top defensive outfielders in the conference.
After graduating from West Liberty, Duffy went on to earn his master's in Business from Robert Morris before setting about making his mark on the business world. Although he began his working life as a teacher and coach, he ultimately entered the private sector as a business professional. At the time of his induction, Duffy was in charge of organizational training and development for Bayer, Inc. and was also serving on the boards of several schools and corporations. He was the founder and first president of the Pittsburgh WLSC Alumni Association.
