Haskins enjoyed his best success on the gridiron, playing for the legendary Joe Bartell for three years before concluding his career under Ollie Olson. A four-year regular on the offensive line, he was a team co-captain and All-WVIAC selection during his senior campaign.
After graduation, he served in the Marine Corps before embarking on an illustrious 30-year career in education in the Marshall County school system. After teaching and coaching for six years, he became the principal at both Cameron and John Marshall high schools before his appointment as superintendent of Marshall County schools, a position he held for 17 years.
Haskins received numerous awards during his career and was the recipient of the 1986 State Leader of Learning Award, the highest educational award in the state. After retiring in 1989, Haskins went on to serve two terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates.
