No. 7 Slippery Rock 65, No. 2 Gannon 57
No. 7 seed Slippery Rock (21-10) controlled the action in the second half to shock the No. 2 seeded PSAC Tournament champion Golden Knights (23-9). The Rock avenged three earlier losses to Gannon – including a 71-45 blowout in last week’s PSAC Tournament – in advancing to the Atlantic Region semifinals for the second time in the past three seasons.
Slippery Rock took a 27-26 lead into the halftime locker room after a nip-and-tuck first half which featured 3 ties and 13 lead changes. Gannon’s A’Darius Porter opened the second half with a strong post move for a 28-27 Golden Knights lead but Jamal Gatali answered with a 3-pointer at the other end and The Rock never trailed again.
Frank Holloway paced Slippery Rock with a game-high 17 points while Gatali added a dozen points on 4-of-7 shooting from the 3-point arc. First-team All-Region standout Adam Blazek closed out a brilliant career for the Golden Knights with 13 points and Jean Yves Toupane added 10 more in a losing cause.
