Women's Basketball | 2/26/2018 4:00:00 PM

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – After turning in one of the greatest statistical seasons in Mountain East Conference history, West Liberty's Marissa Brown was an easy choice as a first-team All-Mountain East Conference selection on Monday when the MEC women's basketball coaches announced the 2017-18 All-MEC honor roll.
The 6-3 junior center from Columbus, Ohio emerged as one of the most dominant posts in the nation this season, gaining momentum with every passing game. The only NCAA Division II woman to rank in the Top 10 nationally in scoring and rebounding, Brown leads the nation with an MEC-record 292 field goals. She also ranks among the MEC leaders in 8 statistical categories, ranking first or second in five of them.
Brown was no stranger to the national spotlight. She was honored as the NCAA Division II National Player of the Week earlier this month after averaging a startling 38.5 points and 17.0 rebounds over a two-game span – including a 43-point, 25-rebound, 6-block performance against then-No. 8-ranked Glenville State. She is currently tied for No. 3 nationally in scoring at 24.0 ppg. and is No. 10 nationally in rebounding at 11.0 rpg. In addition, Brown is 4th nationally with 17 double-doubles, 7th in field-goal percentage (.613), and 9th in defensive rebounds per game (8.0). Along with her 43-point explosion against Glenville, Brown had 5 games with 30 or more points, 20 games with 20 or more points and 18 games with 10 or more rebounds.
Glenville State's Paris McLeod edged out Brown for MEC Player of the Year honors. A senior guard from Belleville, Mich. who also earned MEC Player of the Year laurels a year ago. McLeod also ranked among the league leaders in 8 categories. She was No. 3 in the MEC in scoring (20.0 ppg.), led the MEC in steals per game (3.54) and was No. 4 in assists per game (4.50) and assist/turnover ratio (1.68). McLeod had 17 games with 20 or more points, 2 games with 10 or more rebounds, 2 games with 10 or more assists, 3 double-doubles and one triple-double.
Joining Brown and McLeod as first-team honorees were the Notre Dame tandem of Seina Adachi and Kim Cook along with Shepherd's Morgan Arden, Urbana's Stefanie Davis, West Virginia State's Shae Hines and Chenelle Moore from Wheeling Jesuit. Glenville's Kim Stephens was the MEC Coach of the Year while Fairmont's Sierra Kotchman earned MEC Freshman of the Year honors.
Brown and her West Liberty teammates are preparing to tip off their MEC Tournament run Thursday night in Charleston when they take on No. 5 seed Fairmont State in and 8:15 p.m. quarterfinal at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.
