WHEELING, W.Va. – West Liberty University will host the 2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional men's golf championship Monday through Wednesday at Oglebay Resort's challenging R.T. Jones Course.
Following a practice round on Sunday, more than 100 of the top NCAA Division II golfers from North Carolina to New England will begin matching their skills against the rolling 7,001-yard, par 71 layout bright and early Monday morning.
Each of the three rounds in the 54-hole event is set for a 7:30 a.m. start.
The 108-man field for this week's tournament consists of the top 10 teams in the Atlantic Region and the East Region along with four individual qualifiers from each region. Five teams earned automatic bids as conference champions with 15 at-large bids filling out the list.
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Wilmington (Del.) is back to defend its Atlantic/East Regional crown. West Virginia Conference champion Concord, which qualified for nationals with a third-place regional finish last spring, also returns. The WVIAC's Davis & Elkins, Bluefield State and Charleston each earned at-large bids.
The top three teams and the two individuals with the lowest 54-hole medal scores who aren't members of the three qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Division II national championship tournament, May 20-24, at Hershey (Pa.) Country Club.
